There is an article in today's Times about a new procedure to convert all blood groups to 'O'. There is at least one major error in the article and it also claims that we waste 10% of the blood we collect and credits the NHSBT as the source of this information.

I am a registered nurse (retired) with the Mitcham blood collection team based in South London. I am also a Unite (T&G Section) branch chair for the NHS Blood & Transplant Authority Branch. We have a single branch covering drivers and collection team members in the whole of the NHSBT. Members in the Labs are still in former Amicus branches follwoing the mergers of the TGWU and Amicus.
