Whilst giving blood is normally incident-free, there are risks. These are shown in the latest issue of Blood Matters. For those who think there is no need to have qualified nurses on sessions, the article makes interesting reading.

I am a registered nurse (retired) with the Mitcham blood collection team based in South London. I am also a Unite (T&G Section) branch chair for the NHS Blood & Transplant Authority Branch. We have a single branch covering drivers and collection team members in the whole of the NHSBT. Members in the Labs are still in former Amicus branches follwoing the mergers of the TGWU and Amicus.
