Management Cuts?
At the clinical nurses' conference, Richard Fry announced that many of the staff cuts in the restructuring would affect managers. If you look more closely at the proposals for the Regional Collection Manager and below, there is actually a large increase in the number of managers and in their pay. I have not included session planning or marketing staff in these calculations. Under the proposals, the total pay bill for mangers will rise by £800,000. This increase in pay for managers is being funded by cutting front-line staff even further as it is proposed to lose 27 nursing posts. The savings made by the cuts in nursing come to £837,000. Any one who has worked on a session recently knows that there are not enough nurses as it is, especially with the proliferation of mini teams and mini mobile sessions.
In the end, it is donors and team staff who will have to pay for the increased number of managers.
