600 Redundancies Announced

Martin Gorham, the chief executive of the NHSBT, has announced that there will be at least 600 redundancies as a result of the proposed restructuring of the laboratory services. At least some of these redundancies will be compulsory. The management are proposing to move all testing to three centres. They have provided no details of the huge amount of carbon that will be produced by the millions of extra road miles. Blood collected in Penzance will have to be transported to Bristol for testing and then back to Plymouth for issue. This will be repeated hundreds of times every day for all sessions.

This comes on top of other redundancy announcements in the donor services department (except for managers where they are proposing sixteen new senior management posts).
